International Teaching Positions in Shanghai

Shanghai United International School, Xiamen Campus (SUIS Xiamen) has joined Search Associates during an exciting time. Launched in 2017, the day school will open a new high school campus along the same road in August 2019. A member of the largest not-for-profit educational organization (Xiehe Education Group) in Shanghai, SUIS Xiamen received approval for its new facility at a recent government contract-signing ceremony in the famous Exhibition Centre at the heart of the city. President Xi of China, formerly the governor of this beautiful region, was a guest of honor at this high-profile event.

Xiamen is a beautiful, subtropical island-city, so the school is near stunning beaches and mountains—a paradise for those who would like to enjoy a pollution-free, healthy lifestyle with wide-ranging outdoor activities, such as hiking, swimming, and sailing.

Accredited by the Chinese Ministry of Education, SUIS Xiamen currently enrolls 720 predominantly Chinese students from Grades 1–10, with 10% from North America and the U.K. The team of more than 100 teachers and 25 support staff comprises 80 Chinese teachers and 18 from North America and the U.K. The school has received authorization from Cambridge Assessment International Education, allowing students to follow the U.K. Secondary and A Levels curriculum.

SUIS Xiamen’s state-of-the-art facilities include an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a large outdoor track surrounding a football field, and an enormous gymnasium with the capacity to fit four PE lessons simultaneously. Music and Art Zones support a vibrant creative and performing arts culture at the school. Students make full use of art studios with storage facilities, an auditorium with a grand stage, and two expansive presentation theaters.

SUIS Xiamen prefers to hire certified single teachers and couples, including those with a non-teaching spouse. They will also consider outstanding, newly-certified candidates and those certified in a non-English speaking country. Teachers must hold their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Those under the age of 60 may obtain a work visa. The school says that you should consider applying

“. . . if you are interested in making a significant impact on our friendly and high-achieving school entering an exciting phase in its development.”

Benefits include a monthly housing stipend, a moving allowance, and annual airfare. Tuition is free for two children over the age of five and 50% for children younger than five. Local health insurance, including dental, is fully covered. Professional development opportunities within China and in other parts of Asia will be offered. The school is proud to add,

“In both the primary and secondary schools, staff turnover is very low because many teachers see SUIS Xiamen as an excellent pathway for professional growth. With continuous administrative support in their development, many have become leaders.”

The low cost of living in Xiamen combined with this fine package allows for substantial savings or the chance for a family of four to live well on one salary. There are also local employment opportunities for non-teaching partners.
