Overseas Teaching Jobs in Hong Kong

Stamford American School Hong Kong (SASHK) is a new and fast-growing school in Hong Kong. Conveniently located in the heart of Kowloon, the school is easily accessible from all parts of the city; the campus is just a 5-minute drive from the Western Harbour Tunnel connecting Kowloon and Hong Kong Island and a 15-minute walk from the nearest MTR station. SASHK is proud to be part of the Cognita family of schools, a global group of 70 diverse yet connected schools whose vision is “inspiring a world of education—building self-belief and empowering individuals to succeed.”

Hong Kong is a fascinating place that attracts people from around the world for employment opportunities and a cosmopolitan lifestyle. Its dynamic East-meets-West atmosphere means a wealth of culinary, cultural, sporting, and travel opportunities. Because of its outstanding public transportation system, Hong Kong is extremely safe and easy to navigate. Its busy and vibrant downtown area contrasts beautifully with its green and peaceful countryside. In this predominantly Chinese city, education is valued and teachers are highly respected.

Newly refurbished in 2017, SASHK’s campus now includes first-class facilities: a heated 25-meter indoor pool; an arena of over 1,000 square feet; a café; and spaces for collaboration and play. Classrooms are equipped with smart boards, and for its 1:1 commitment, SASHK provides iPads to all elementary students and Macbooks to all middle school students. The school’s commitment to innovative education is supported by its Innovation Center; the Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Innovation Lab (STEMinn); and an auditorium (iLearn) equipped with the technology to support video conferences, presentations, and assemblies. The school also boasts specialist rooms for visual art, drama, music, and physical education. In addition to outstanding facilities, Stamford supports its staff and students with an Information and Communications Technology team, on-site counselors, and nurses.

Now in its second year, SASHK enrolls 800 students from Pre-primary to Grade 8, with plans to introduce Grades 9 through 12 in the coming years. The holistic curriculum is inquiry-driven and follows the American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards and benchmarks. A strong focus on STEM ensures that students develop the core skills needed for the future. SASHK is a candidate school for the Council of International Schools and is pursuing authorization to be an International Baccalaureate World School. SASHK’s teaching staff of 40 includes 30 from North America, two from Hong Kong and one teacher from the U.K.

SASHK is interested in hiring single teachers but would consider teaching couples, exceptional newly-certified teachers, outstanding local teachers lacking certification, and exceptional candidates certified in non-English speaking countries. Candidates must possess their academic degree in the subject they will be teaching. Certified teachers up to the age of 65 may obtain a work visa. The school says,

Join a team focused on creating a caring, collaborative, and happy community where all are inspired to pursue their passions and reach their dreams!”

Benefits include a competitive salary, moving allowance, a monthly housing stipend, and annual airfare. Additionally, SASHK contributes 5% to a retirement plan, up to the amount of HKD 1500. Tuition for up to two children is free. Worldwide health insurance—except the U.S.—is also fully covered and includes dental. Professional development will ensure that the staff is continuously learning about the latest in pedagogy and technology. There are local employment opportunities for non-teaching partners. The SASHK package offers a chance for some great savings!
